Panasonic Lumix GH5 in the Himalayas

Panasonic gave me their Lumix GH5 + Vario 12–35 2.8 O.I.S lens to test for 10 days. I took it to explore the remote valley of Rohru for my ongoing project, Life in Shimla.

I won’t really get into the technical part as you can find a lot more detailed technical reviews on the internet. I’ll just show you the pictures I took with it and a little conclusion about the whole experience.

I am pretty sure no one is going to buy this camera to take stills as it is known for its outstanding video performance. It’s basically a 4K video camera that can also take RAW stills. It is capable of recording in-camera 10bit 4K at 24fps and 8bit 4K at 60fps.

The autofocus is average but focus peaking while manual focusing is a life saver.

It also supports Vlog but that you have to purchase separately. The process to install Vlog is pointless. I hope they give it free in their next firmware update.

Overall, Panasonic GH5 is a great lightweight device. The built quality is phenomenal. So is the video quality. If you want a performance heavy lightweight camera for filmmaking, this is the camera for you. If you want to push beyond 1600 ISO and want low light performance in your videos, get something else. A Sony perhaps.
